Die schnellere DDR-5-Variante der GT 740 eignet sich für einfache 3D-Spiele, ist aber primär für den Office- und Multimedia-Einsatz konzipiert. Zusätzlich gibt es die Geforce GT 740 noch als DDR3-Variante, die aber wesentlich langsamer ist. Laut Nvidia-Webseite soll die GT 740 sogar DirectX-12 unterstützen, was aber nicht sein kann, da sie auf dem alten GK107-Kern basiert.
